Like first century Galilee, we live in a culture that is saturated with biblical truth. On one hand, the influence of this culture is a tremendous advantage in that we have a level of access to spiritual truth that others could only dream about. However, if we are not careful this influence can also lead us to develop a set of religious assumptions that prevent us from accurately perceiving this same spiritual truth. Why is it abolutely imperative to abandon these religious assumptions when encountering Jesus? Jesus answers this question in Matthew 11:20-30 as He pleads with Israel to check their religious baggage at the door and learn from Him.
