The word “hypocrite” is thrown around quite often in reference to the church. Unbelievers claim that they refuse to follow Christ because “Christians are all a bunch of hypocrites.” Believers will move from one church to another, claiming that their old church was “full of hypocrites.” What is hypocrisy really? You may even use this term often, but do you understand what it means? Is it even possible that you are the hypocrite without realizing it? And what does God find so offensive about hypocrisy? In Matthew 6:1-18, Jesus condemns the hypocrisy of the scribes and Pharisees as exemplified in their practice of three expressions of worship.
